Viers Arrest Terminates Candidacy

S.C. Rep Thad Viers, an early announced candidate for the 7th Congressional District seat, is pulling out of the race due to his arrest on first degree harassment charges of an ex=girlfriend today. He also announced he would not seek re-election to his current office due to the incident.

Viers turned himself in to Myrtle Beach police this afternoon. The question is how did Myrtle Beach become the agency of record? Viers does not live in Myrtle Beach, the ex-girlfriend reportedly lives in Charleston and the harassment took place via cell phone and internet.

According to reports, the ex-girlfriend told police she had broken off her relationship with Viers last June and had repeatedly asked Viers to stop harassing her.

Political Profile – Andrew Preston Brittain

Andrew Preston Brittain (pictured here with wife Elizabeth) took his first step into the political arena last week when he addressed the Beach Dems Breakfast meeting in Myrtle Beach.

Brittain said he was a candidate for the new S.C. 7th Congressional District and would begin his campaign in earnest early in January.

A native of Myrtle Beach, the 31-year old Brittain is a graduate of Myrtle Beach High School, Wofford College and the University of South Carolina Law School. He is currently a trial attorney in Myrtle Beachafter serving as a clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Terry Wooten.

Dems Looking at New 7th District

The new 7th Congressional District in South Carolina will get big play in the coming year as both the Democratic and Republican parties are looking at hot contests for the seat.

The Republicans already have nine announced candidates, with
a possible tenth candidate in the wings.

The Democrats are currently looking at a possible five
candidates. S.C. state rep Ted Vick of Florence and Myrtle Beach attorney
Parnell Diggs are already announced. Myrtle Beach attorney Preston Brittain
will announce in early January.

Lucky Dog Television Productions and Politics

Even as a young boy, Donald Smith, owner of Lucky Dog Television Productions, had an entrepreneurial spirit.

“I was always looking for ways to make money,” said Smith.

Growing up in a rural town in South Carolina, Smith’s early endeavors concentrated on farming. By the time he was a senior in high school, he had prepared himself to open his own business.

“I spent several years working part-time in the farm supply business,” said Smith. “I decided to open my own business when I graduated.”

Smith said telling his father that he did not want to go to college was one of the toughest moments of his life.
